Permanent exhibition

"Curtain up for science" the Lighthouse permanent exhibition allows the world's largest X-ray laser to be experienced by a wide audience. Visitors of all ages can experience the functionality and purpose of the globally unique facility in numerous interactive exhibits.

The central element of the exhibition is a model of the 3.4-kilometre-long facility, which begins on the campus of the Deutsches Elektronen Synchotron (DESY ) in Hamburg Bahrenfeld and ends in the experimental hall of the European XFEL in Schenefeld. Further interactive exhibits and display boards provide an insight into the research carried out there and its potential applications.

Special exhibitions

The Lighthouse also organises regular special exhibitions. Dates for the next Lighthouse events here.

Parallel universes—Fluro-Art by Felix Stöver

27 March 2025 - 28 June 2025

On display are the fluorescent and phosphorescent artworks by the northern German artist Felix Stöver. His pictures play with light and form a bridge between the visible and the invisible. He and his pictures were very well known in the Psytrance and Goa scene.

Felix Stöver studied physics at the University of Hamburg and wrote his diploma thesis at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in 2007. There, as at the European XFEL, fluorescence and phosphorescence also play an important role in the investigation of molecules and substances.

After his untimely death, Stöver's pictures lay dormant in his parents' attic for a long time, until they reappeared a few months ago in the Hamburg art and creative centre JUPITER.

Now they are displayed at the science experience centre Lighthouse.
