Guided tours

The underground experiment hall can also be discovered as part of a booked, guided tour.

As a large international research facility, European XFEL offers insights into state-of-the-art research. We offer guided tours for groups, especially focused on researchers, university students and school students.

Tours of our facility are free of charge and can be booked for the period from Monday to Friday from 10:00 - 17:00. The duration is 90-120 minutes including a tour of the exhibition and the experimental hall. Please send your booking request via our online form.

Important info about tours

  • Minimum age: For safety reasons, visitors must be at least 14 years old.
  • Group size: Approximately 10-20 people. Larger groups will be divided into small groups on site.
  • Meeting point: At the information desk of the Lighthouse, Holzkoppel 4, 22869 Schenefeld. Info on how to get there can be found on the contact page.
  • Clothing and bags: Flat, closed shoes are mandatory in the experiment hall. Larger bags and rucksacks cannot be taken into the experimental hall, lockers are available.
  • Photography for non-commercial purposes is allowed. However, please do not take pictures of staff members unless they explicitly agree.
  • Accessibility: Barrier-free movement is possible during the tour.
  • Food, drinks and souvenirs are available in our company restaurant BeamStop. If your group would like to have lunch there, please contact Björn Eggers at b.eggers@klueh.de before your visit. Please note that external visitors must pay with a credit/debit card. Alternatively a group invoice can be sent by post (payment not possible on site), which requires you to provide an invoice address. Please inform BeamStop of your preferred payment method at the time of booking or at least five working days before your visit.
