Wherever you look at European XFEL you will see complex, impressive, state-of-the-art equipment and machines, without which none of the experiments at European XFEL would be possible. And yet, it is the people, not the instruments of European XFEL who drive the science done here. The smooth and well-oiled collaboration of many different people is essential to build, maintain and operate the facility and to bring about new understanding of the nature of life and the universe.
