Situated in picturesque Schenefeld, Guest House at European XFEL is perfectly positioned for beamtime but also for downtime. The campus is surrounded by parkland that lends itself to outdoor activities and city life is not far away in the historic city of Hamburg.

Getting here

By airplane Most international flights arrive at the Hamburg airport / Flughafen Hamburg. The airport has a direct connection to the rail network, as well as being easily reachable by a taxi cab.

By train There are two major train stations in Hamburg—Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and Hamburg Altona. Both are easily accessible by public transport.

By car Should you be driving to the Guest House, guest parking spots are available. Please contact the Guest House team for further information.

Dining

Located within walking distance from the Guest House, the company restaurant BeamStop caters to the most demanding connaisseurs. Whether it is a working lunch, power breakfast, or a midday snack, BeamStop has it all. 

Please note that any meals ordered for delivery from an outside vendor need to be picked up personally at the main entrance gate. The staff at the gate does not accept food deliveries on the resident´s behalf, neither is it possible to notify the resident about the arrival of the delivery. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Hamburg

Located just a ride away from EuXFEL campus, Hamburg can charm you with its scenic vistas over the harbour, playful melodies coming from the Elbphilharmonie, majestic Planetarium in the Stadtpark, or vibrant nightlife. Hamburg tourism provides detailed information for visitors.

Schenefeld

The town of Schenefeld offers shops, cafés, and boutiques as well as extensive parkland. Swimming, cycling, running or simply strolling are highly encouraged!

Local guide

Navigating a new city can be daunting, especially in a foreign country. The Guest House team will be delighted to help with any queries you may have—from suggesting a well-stocked grocery store, to advising on cultural customs or recommending a restaurant. The international team is ready to assist local and global travellers alike.

Campus guide

Staying at the Guest House means easy access to the main building, instruments, and laboratories, as well as the company restaurant and outdoor areas. Vending and coffee machines are located in the foyer of the main building of European XFEL.
