With the event, organized by the city and supported by local institutions such as cultural associations, political parties, religious communities, clubs, and initiatives, participants expressed their stance against political extremism and neo-Nazi networks.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Feurer, Chairman of the European XFEL Management Board, said after the event: "With employees from more than 60 countries, we foster a multinational and open atmosphere in our facility, where different perspectives greatly enrich the working environment. However, we have recently observed a worrying increase in activities in Germany and other countries which go against the principles of international scientific cooperation and threatens the foundation of our open society. I am pleased that tonight we can show our commitment to democracy and tolerance together with so many Schenefeld citizens."
