CHEM Chemistry Chamber

The SCS Chem chamber is an experimental station for in-vacuum liquid jet experiments in the soft and tender X-ray range. Experiments performed with this chamber investigate topics including the photophysics and photochemistry of molecules, chemical reaction dynamics, solvation dynamics, and fundamental properties of solutions. The chamber can be combined with the hRIXS spectrometer for time-resolved resonant inelastic x-ray scattering measurements (tr-RIXS), the BOZ-XAS setup for transmission mode time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy (tr-XAS), or a downstream spectrometer (in development) for transmission mode measurements with full SASE bandwidth and/or two colors mode (e.g. non-linear X-ray experiments). The Chem chamber is compatible with the full range of optical laser delivery options provided at SCS. Diagnostics are provided to characterize the size and thickness of liquid samples as well as X-ray and optical laser sizes.
