Researchers from all over the world who will be visiting European XFEL for their research projects in the future will be able to stay close to the facility. The new guest house has 58 beds in 55 rooms and can also be used outside of beam times for other guests of the research facility or for events of the planned visitor center.

With the opening of the guest house, the Schenefeld research campus continues to grow and  provide a research environment that is on par with the world's top international research facilities in terms of accommodation for researchers.

Prof. Robert Feidenhans'l, Managing Director and Chairman of the European XFEL Management Board said, "Our researchers often prepare the experiments at the European XFEL for months. With the new guest house, they can make even better use of their precious time with us for their research, since long commutes are no longer necessary, and indiv idual team members can now be more flexibly available during their often long shifts."

Managing and Administrative Director Nicole Elleuche said, "We are pleased that the construction of the guest house was completed as planned and on time within budget, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. For that, I would like to thank everyone involved."
