XFEL: Fascinated by X-rays at European XFEL

On Monday 8 July, a group of school children aged 13-18 visited European XFEL as part of the Hamburg based program ‘Faszination Technik Klub’. Following an introduction talk and tour of the facility, the young technology and science fans were invited to carry out laser diffraction experiments, build their own optical microscopes and examine leaf and flower samples under the electron microscope.

The Faszination Technik Klub, organised by the city of Hamburg, is aimed at school children aged 8 and over. Companies, universities, societies and organisations from across the Hamburg region offer events and activities with the goal of introducing young people to a range of technical careers. This is the second time that European XFEL has taken part.
