How it starts

Only the frost slowed things down a bit on yesterday’s official start of construction. Apart from that, building work now began at full speed. In Schenefeld, first activities include moving a footpath and erecting a fence around the 150 000-square metre site, as well as setting up the necessary infrastructure (office containers, construction road, electric supplies and many things more). Preparation of the 20 000-square metre site DESY-Bahrenfeld is already completed and the large-scale earthmoving activities will start in a few days. 120 000 cubic metres of soil will have to be removed and driven away in order to bring two areas onto the same level. On the site Osdorfer Born, trees are being felled and the detailed surveying of the premises is under way.

You can follow the activities on the construction sites in real time via webcam. You will also find up-to-date reports on the progress of the various activities in our construction calendar (in German only).
