SRI2021 to take place in Hamburg

DESY and European XFEL will host the prestigious SRI2021 conference in Hamburg

DESY and European XFEL will host the SRI2021 conference in Hamburg

Scientists from the light source facilities around the world are set to meet in Hamburg in 2021. Supported by Hamburg Convention Bureau, DESY and European XFEL have won the bid to host the 14th International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation Instrumentation SRI2021 in Hamburg. The announcement was made during the 13th International Conference on Synchrotron Radation Instrumentation SRI2018 in Taipei, Taiwan. The SRI conference is the most significant and largest international meeting in the synchrotron radiation and free-electron laser community.

After nearly 40 years, the SRI will return to Hamburg, where the first meeting was held in 1982. At that time DORIS was the only operating synchrotron source in Hamburg. The metropolitan area now hosts three unique research facilities: the European XFEL, PETRA III and FLASH at DESY. These three facilities complement each other and open up new research opportunities for scientists and industrial users of the international synchrotron radiation and free-electron laser community. Hamburg is once again ideally suited to be the venue of the next SRI conference.

Rotating between Europe, America and the Asia-Pacific region, SRI conferences are hosted by countries with the most advanced light source facilities. They are organised by the international synchrotron radiation and free-electron laser community. SRI2021 will take place in the ‘new CCH’, the Congress Center Hamburg, right in the center of the city, from 31 August to 3 September 2021 and is expected to attract more than 1000 participants.
