ATTRACT funds 170 projects to develop solutions for key societal challenges

Horizon 2020 project awards proposals €100,000 each

ATTRACT, a Horizon 2020 research and innovation project funded by the European Union and backed by a consortium of nine partners including European XFEL, has announced 170 breakthrough ideas that will each receive €100,000 to develop technologies to develop sensing and imaging technologies to change society.

The projects selected for funding were drawn from a pool of more than 1,200 proposals from researchers and entrepreneurs in scientific and industrial organisations across the world. An Independent Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) Committee evaluated the proposals.

The ATTRACT initiative starts a one-year race to develop sensing and imaging technologies that will enable breakthrough innovations. Application areas being targeted include medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, climate change, materials science and many more.

Led by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the ATTRACT initiative involves the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), the European XFEL, Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Aalto University, the European Industrial Research Management Association (EIRMA) and ESADE. The initiative is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

More information about ATTRACT and the winning projects can be found on the ATTRACT webpage.
