XFEL: European XFEL at the Science Picnic in Warsaw
European XFEL at the Science Picnic in Warsaw
More than 50,000 visitors attended the 23rd Warsaw Science Picnic on Saturday 11 May. The event, organised by Radio Poland and the Copernicus Science Center, took place around the large PGE Narodowy stadium. The activities at the European XFEL booth of the company’s Polish shareholder, the National Centre of Nuclear Research (NCBJ), were met with great interest. As part of European XFEL’s own exhibition, young visitors in particular were keen to virtually explore the FXE experiment station, where scientists investigate the sequence of extremely fast reactions and processes.
European XFEL Managing Director Prof. Robert Feidenhans'l was pleased about the joint appearance of the two research institutions: "We would like to thank NCBJ for the invitation and the opportunity to present our work to a large audience. Events such as the Warsaw Science Picnic are a great way to interact with diverse groups of people, and inspire particularly children and young people to engage with science and research."
“We would like to thank the European XFEL team for their contribution to this very successful and memorable picnic. The European XFEL activities could be communicated to various audiences of different age groups” said Dr. Katarzyna Deja, director of education and training at NCBJ.
