Hamburg Consular Corps visits European XFEL

Hamburg Senate invites representatives from more than 30 countries to the facility

On 18 June, more than 50 members of the Hamburg consular corps visited European XFEL. The Hamburg senate invited the representatives of more than 30 countries to the facility as part of their annual meeting. The first Mayor of Hamburg, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, and the council of state, Dr. Annette Tabbara, accompanied the international guests. European XFEL managing directors Prof. Robert Feidenhans’l and Dr. Nicole Elleuche welcomed the guests and introduced them to the facility and explained the research carried out using the X-ray laser. The guests were also able to visit the underground experiment hall, scientific instruments and into one of the tunnels.

Oksana Tarasyuk, Doyenne of the Hamburg consular corps said: "This collaborative project not only advances science but builds bridges out into the world and creates networks. European XFEL is a successful example of a lively European integration, a wonderful, complementary collaboration of twelve partners."

European XFEL Managing Director Prof. Robert Feidenhans’l said: “We are an international facility, visited by scientists from across the globe who come to do their research, and staff from more than 60 nationalities who work together towards a common goal. Therefore, it is a particular pleasure to be able welcome, together with the first mayor of Hamburg Peter Tschentscher, representatives of so many countries to European XFEL.”
