The European XFEL will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and others. Located in the Hamburg area, Germany, it will comprise scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Construction of the European XFEL is underway, its commissioning is scheduled for 2014. The European XFEL GmbH is a non-profit company with DESY as the main shareholder.

For the development and implementation of femtosecond high repetition rate optical laser systems required for the scientific instruments and for electron beam interaction we invite highly qualified scientists to apply for the position as

Leading optical laser scientist (f/m)

The position

The successful candidate will be responsible for the optical laser systems at the European XFEL. This task includes

  • the development of few-cycle femtosecond laser systems enabling operation at MHz repetition rates while providing pulse energies up to few millijoule
  • the implementation and operation of several laser systems (including a multi-TW system) and their related instrumentation at the European XFEL
  • to build up and develop an optical laser group

Requirements

Candidates should be well-established leaders in the field of ultrashort pulse laser development. They are expected to have several years of experience in using and building ultrashort pulse lasers and with diagnostic techniques required to monitor their performance. Personal skills and the ability to build up and lead an international team of scientists must be demonstrated.
