The European XFEL will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and others. Located in the Hamburg area, Germany, it will comprise scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Construction of the European XFEL is underway, its commissioning is scheduled for 2014. The European XFEL GmbH is a non-profit company with DESY as the main shareholder.

Leading XFEL research scientist – HED (f/m)
The position
The role will be to build up and develop a scientific research group and to coordinate the definition, design and construction of the instrument for high-energy density matter investigations (HED). This experiment station aims at investigating extreme states of matter (in pressure, temperature, ionisation) using X-rays to excite and/or probe these systems.
Requirements
Candidates are expected to have a proven record in high intensity laser-matter interaction experiments, preferably using X-rays.
Exchange within the scientific community for the instrument is expected. Personal skills for a leading position and the ability to build up and lead an international team of scientists must be demonstrated.
