The European XFEL will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and others. Located in the Hamburg area, Germany, it will comprise scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Construction of the European XFEL is underway, its commissioning is scheduled for 2014. The European XFEL GmbH is a non-profit company with DESY as the main shareholder.

Leading XFEL research scientist – MID (f/m)
The position
The role will be to build up and develop a scientific research group and to coordinate the definition, design and construction of the instrument for materials imaging and dynamics (MID). This experiment station aims at determining structure and dynamics of nanoscale systems. Diffraction imaging and photon correlation spectroscopy and the investigation of new fundamental techniques, are part of the instruments scope.
Requirements
Candidates are expected to have a proven record in X-ray scattering using coherent radiation.
Exchange within the scientific community for the instrument is expected. Personal skills for a leading position and the ability to build up and lead an international team of scientists must be demonstrated.
