Engineer (f/m)

The European XFEL will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and others. Located in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, it will comprise scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Engineer (f/m)

The position

  • mechanical layout of photon diagnostics devices, including CAD design of placeholder and production models: vacuum chambers, motion stages
  • selection of standard components for photon diagnostics systems
  • participation in the design and construction of an X-ray monochromator for photon-beam based commissioning of the undulators
  • participation in the design and construction of a 2D beam imaging station

Requirements

  • degree in engineering, electronics engineering or equivalent
  • proven record of projects on hard- and software control of experimental setups
  • manual hands on experience and skills
  • proven software programming skills for the control of measurement hardware under LabWindows/C, LabView
  • experience in electronics, motion control systems, magnetic measurements and techniques
  • team orientation: Willingness to collaborate with others, to adopt and, if needed, improve existing techniques, software and hardware tools
  • background in accelerator and/or Synchrotron Radiation labs is welcome
  • organization skills
  • communicative and collaborative personality
