The European XFEL will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and others. Located in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, it will comprise scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Construction of the European XFEL is underway, its commissioning is scheduled for 2014. The European XFEL GmbH is a non-profit company with DESY as the main shareholder. For the further development of our administrative structures we invite qualified and motivated professionals to apply for one of our two positions as

Procurement officer (f/m)

The position

  • assistance in the definition and introduction of the procurement strategy for our non-profit research organization with an annual buying volume in the double-digit million € range
  • collaboration in the specification of the procurement processes, tools and roles
  • analysis of relevant markets
  • identification of potential suppliers
  • preparation of complex bid invitations under the legal restrictions for public organizations, particularly VOB/VOL and EU regulations
  • work as part of a team with technical advisors on difficult procurement issues

Requirements

  • completed commercial apprenticeship
  • a few years of purchasing experience
  • experience in foreign trade and payments including some knowledge of the respective law
  • knowledge of public procurement (VOB/VOL)
  • fluent in spoken and written German and English
