InternalWorking in an international environment for the world’s brightest X-ray source
The European XFEL will make available X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials research and others. Located in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, it will comprise a superconducting electron accelerator, magnet structures for the generation of the X-ray radiation, photon beamlines, and scientific instruments for a wide range of experimental techniques. Construction of the European XFEL is underway, its commissioning is scheduled for 2014.
The European XFEL GmbH now hires
The European XFEL GmbH is a non-profit Company of Limited Liability under German law. This company was founded on 28 September 2009, initially with DESY (Hamburg, Germany) as the only shareholder. Shareholders from other states will join the company soon.
EC preparatory project
To a certain extent, current hiring is enabled within the framework of a grant agreement that has been established with the European Commission (EC) as part of the EC project “Preparatory activities for the implementation of the European X-ray Free-Electron Laser Facility”. This project is based on a network of 18 institutions in 12 countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom). Funding of this EC preparatory project will last until June 2011.
Selected candidates shall be hired by the contributing institutions in the 12 specified countries and seconded to work in Hamburg. The project furthermore emphasizes the possibility to use these positions and the related funding to support secondment of permanent staff to the European XFEL project in Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein.
Duration
Contracts will be made for a fixed duration of two or three years. Extension of contract duration will become possible after formation of the European XFEL GmbH in 2009. In the case of excellent performance, the possibility to convert positions to permanent ones will exist after formation of the European XFEL GmbH.
