European XFEL presents free-electron laser science in Jena
Physics of light the focus of Highlights der Physik festival
From 22 September to 26 September, European XFEL participated in the Highlights der Physik science festival, which was held this year in Jena and was attended by a record 53 000 people. European XFEL’s exhibition included several facility components, including a niobium accelerator cavity and a strong neodymium undulator magnet, as well as informative materials about the opportunities made available by the facility. Employees and Ph.D. students were on hand to answer questions from the public. The festival, which was organized and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG), and the University of Jena, presented developments in physics research to the general public with the theme of “Lichtspiele” (“Light Games”) and a focus on the physics of light.
