European XFEL Open House and Hamburg Night of Science
European XFEL will have a major exhibition as part of both DESY Day and Hamburg's Nacht des Wissens ("Night of Science"), lasting from 12:00 to 24:00 on 7 November 2015. The exhibition, which will occur on European XFEL's DESY-Bahrenfeld site in Hamburg, will include a brief look into the tunnel containing the European XFEL's linear accelerator, which will drive the facility's unique X-ray laser; several displays and interactive activities explaining the facility's scientific goals and capabilities; a film programme showing the research opportunities made possible by the European XFEL and facility's construction progress; and the possibility to talk with several of European XFEL's scientists, engineers, and technicians. The exhibition will also feature a continuous sound installation by Hamburg electronic musician Hans Schüttler made from measurement data taken from an X-ray laser component. Entrance to all activities and exhibits is free.
At 21:00, Managing Director Massimo Altarelli will give a presentation, entitled “Tanzende Moleküle als Filmstars – Das europäischer Röntgenlaser-Projekt”, in the DESY Auditorium (Hörsaal) on science at the European XFEL.
The main exhibition will happen at the building “XHEE” on the DESY campus (you can find it in the northwestern corner of this map). People of all ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. We hope to see you there!
