Topping-out ceremony for modulator hall
With a topping-out ceremony for the modulator hall, the European XFEL GmbH thanked the construction workers for the swift progress.
On 21 September 2011 already, just three months after construction started, the topping-out ceremony of the modulator hall could take place—although this building on the European XFEL site DESY-Bahrenfeld is far from petite: its floor space measures over 2500 square metres and its height around 11 metres.
Accordingly, Massimo Altarelli, Chairman of the Management Board of the European XFEL GmbH, the company that is the owner of the building, was pleased: “When our engineers report on the progress of the modulator hall, they become enthusiastic: no major complications, everything is within budget and on time.” Foreman Bernhard Seelig accepted the thanks with pleasure, before all attendees moved on to pea soup.
The modulator hall is where the power needed for the acceleration process is being conditioned. This will be achieved by means of modulators that will be installed in the hall from 2012 on.
