DESY and European XFEL GmbH have released a common website with information on the subsidence that was discovered above the tunnel route on 2 July 2011. The investigation of the subsidence is still ongoing.
The information page is mainly addressed to residents and property owners in the vicinity of the tunnel route, to respond to their concerns. It also reflects the desire of the builder, the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), and the European XFEL GmbH, to transparently elucidate the incident.
DESY is the awarding authority of the civil construction works for the European XFEL X-ray laser facility. The civil construction, which also includes the construction of the 5.7 km long tunnel system, began in January 2009 and is expected to be completed in mid-2013.
