Our Scientific Network

The headquarters of European XFEL on the new Schenefeld research campus is located not far from the DESY Bahrenfeld campus in the west of Hamburg, where an exciting scientific infrastructure has developed during the last decades.

It includes first of all our partner DESY, but also the Center for Free Electron Laser Science (CFEL), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) with its Hamburg branch, as well as several institutes of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG) and the University of Hamburg.

European XFEL is a member of EIROforum, a partnership between eight of Europe’s largest inter-governmental scientific research organisations, operating some of Europe’s largest research infrastructures and laboratories: CERN, EMBL, ESA, ESO, ESRF, EUROfusion, European XFEL and ILL. EIROforum combines the resources, facilities and expertise of its member organisations to support European science in reaching its full potential.

Our researchers continuously develop world-wide partnerships with relevant scientific organizations, for example with the LCLS (Linac Coherent Light Source) in USA, the SPring-8 (Super Photon ring-8 GeV) in Japan, and SwissFEL in Switzerland.
